Gimmix saying Hello!

Post by Gimmix »

56 year old punk in Somerset, UK saying Hello!

I've been into punk and new wave since '78. I like a variety of stuff from The Clash (obviously) to Wire to Elvis Costello to Discharge to Devo to the Dead Kennedys to Blondie to Motorhead to Crass to The Slits to... well, you get the picture.

First gig was Joy Division/Buzzcocks in 1979, last gig was Alternative TV in 2019. I'm supposed to be seeing Rubella Ballet soon but covid has meant that it's been rescheduled twice already with not much chance of it happening any time soon.

Anyway, that's me. I'm off to have a nose around these here parts.

Cheers, Gimmix.

I was thinking the same. Always regretted not buying the orange triangle version. Welcome Gimmix!

Have you read JCC's recent autobiography? Very funny, as you would expect.

It's in my towering and ever-growing pile of 'still to be read' books.
JCC is someone I've missed from seeing live, like mad. He could work just as a stand-up comic, apart from his poetry, a true master of the one-liner.
One of his I remember:
'Did you hear about the Jewish-Irish defence lawyer... Levy Malone?'

Cheers, JCC has always been one of my fave's, I saw him a couple of times in the early '80's and again in more recent times. Always a good night out.

Yes, I crammed it in while moving home just before xmas, it was definitely the best book I read all year. Very funny and extremely evocative of the period(s).

I'm with you on the towering and ever-growing pile of 'still to be read' books. The Clash ones must ne in double figures, and Don Letts' latest one on the way!

I also agree about his stand up. Last time I saw him I think the jokes and chat between the poems was at least as good as the poems themselves. "Burnley, where they still point at planes" went down well with the Stockport crowd thanks to our strange football rivalry (strange given there are 4 divisions between us!)

I also saw him years ago in Durham. He was obviously convinced Durham was a sea port because he kept telling sailor jokes all night!
