Happy belated birthday to one of my favourite internet people ever.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Here's hoping you had a wonderful birthday.
Just for the record, my teams have NEVER won a game on my birthday.
The Mets DID trade for Lindor on mine. Still not too sure if that was a good present or not, lol.
Anyway, I hope you had a fun day. Stay safe!
From what I see there's still a little hope
That's if we don't hang from too much rope

Thanks again, folks.

We’re in hour 25 of a citywide power outage, so I temporarily cede my post count whore major domo status to someone else.

Sorry to hear that Doc. Is this all from the storm that rolled through? Is your electrical utility providing an estimated restoration time?

Yup. Brief but intense storm late Saturday afternoon. Whereas trees were torn down around the city, nothing in our yard moved an inch—not furniture or garbage can. Power came on some time between 11 and 11.45 pm last night, but we're still showing as in the outage zone. HydroOttawa has been shit useless with its map and zero communication about restoration—one day to two days now to three or four. It was especially frustrating because, literally, the street to the south and to the west had power yesterday. Anyway, it's over apart from restocking some perishables.

Sorry I missed the day itself. Here's to the intelligent, perceptive, and kind Dr. Medulla from whom I have learned so much. Thank you for your good influence on me and many years of friendship.

A belated happiest of birthdays to doctor shit for brains. I truly admire how thoughtful you are in such an unforgiving format. It’s something to strive for.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Ugh, I feel your frustration, I know it all too well. Hopefully whatever failed and they replaced is now upgraded and will reduce your outage frequency and duration going forward.
You may be able to submit a claim for reimbursement for your lost food items, but I'm not familiar with your utility. We recently bought a very small, quirt inverter generator that runs on gasoline or propane with the intent of using it to save our food, haven't had to use it yet (knock on wood).
Widespread power outages caused by storms are hard to pin down ERT's (estimated restoration times). Where I worked we prioritized based on safety, duration on interruption and number of customers impacted. Manpower becomes a challenge, we worked 24 on followed by 8 hours off, so there were times when more crews were resting than working. Overhead was easier to pinpoint the problem, underground took much longer because you had to open structures to inspect prior to reenergizing to avoid further damage.

Nah, what we lost is probably under $150, and some of it, if we're being honest, was just sitting in the freezer and would never be eaten.

Yup, I'll be contacting a few places tomorrow about a stand-by generator that runs on natural gas (the same as our furnace). But I expect those places to be bombarded with calls, so I'll be on a list for now. We've meant to do this for awhile now, so just getting the ball rolling is good enough.

I definitely sympathize with the workers—whatever extra money they've made from this shit show (they're describing it as worse than a tornado 4 years ago and a killer ice storm 24 years ago) is more than earned. But our power has been restored for almost a day now and the outage map still shows us as out. Totally useless and unreliable information.
