Happy Birthday eumaas!

Post by Flex »

Happy birthday to the man who has the greatest respect for the sea of anyone I know. I'll let someone else remind you what to be wary of...

I know you don't post here too much anymore, but I can't overstate the influence you've had on my life and the way I think about the world. In a real way, you're a part of my life every day. Happy birthday, friend.

Our alum of alums, for so many years the one who pushed us to think harder and to care more about ideas and to hate purposeless lists (he failed miserably on that last one). And then you were (mostly) gone. But your DNA is all over this place and always will be. You're such a goddamned smart and caring little fucker, I'm equal parts envious and inspired by you. I am so proud and grateful to have stumbled into your orbit. Laugh and smile at all you have done, and know that even better is to come.

Happy birthday to the man who said I had syphilis of the brain and should be locked in the gulag for 50 years. Don't worry, I still like you.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

And to think we laughed at him at the time.

To be fair, most of us nodded along.

Thank you all so much!

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
