It's a weird thing to consider that long ago, at the same time, Johns Lydon and Travolta dominated their entertainment spheres. Try to explain that to the kids!

I'm teaching a class on American in the 70s this summer so I'm chugging away at reading, and I'm struck by the parallels to our own time. Loud white grievance, domestic terrorism, the appeal of conspiracies and cults, the sense that problems seem too huge to solve all seem pronounced in similar ways.
