The Sin of Gin was a hero of cricket (theoretical).

Now the Sin of Gin was a rakehell and an avid cricket player, but had been mixing with the lower orders on account of his predilection for dissipation. As a jest, he brought over football (round) and demonstrated it to "my dear Percy," who was shocked and appalled by the emasculated "sport" played before him. Now when I say emasculated, back in those days killing players on the rival team was considered good form on account of thinning out the lesser breeds of men. But it was done mainly by strangulation, and Pussylips was a man of the spiked bat school who thought the affair too bloodless for a man's game. So he charged in there with his finest spiked bat and killed the players to the last man, save his cousin the Sin of Gin on account of blood being thicker than water. Pussylips and the Sin of Gin had a good laugh on that day. Turns out it was the Earl's intention all along to murder the proles. That was some joke!

It was the first ever football (round) game ever played on United States soil, and it remains the high water mark of the game.
And it appears to be spreading!

The USMNT U-17 team dropped their first game of the 2015 U-17 World Cup to reigning champions Nigeria. The spin is that the US had some decent chances and kept it scoreless in the first half (true), but they were utterly dominated overall ended up with a red card in the 87th minute of the game, which isn't something you really want to see happen.

I guess the folks that actually follow this stuff more than I do say there's some promising talent on the team (although at that age, who really knows) so it'll be interesting to see if they can do anything in their other games this round. They're in a tough group.

The U.S team is about a minute away from being out of the U-17 World Cup. Crushed 4-1 by the host country, Chile. The U.S. Men's National Teams are basically a mess at all levels right now. October has been a tough month for the national teams.

If anybody is looking for some entertainment while they're catching up on horrible world news, the U.S. Men's National Team just scored their fifth goal against St. Vincent & the Grenadines (which is #1 is the list of countries that would make great bands). First game in the U.S. road to 2018 World Cup qualification.

So...we're beating one of our own Korean War-era test bombing atolls in a must-win game of speckled-ball hockey?

Thanks, Obama.

Mallory Pugh, a 17 year old from Colorado, scored a goal in today's USWNT 5-0 win over Ireland. She was just called up to the team and her "home club" is a youth team from the front range called Real Colorado.

Just got back from the Colorado Rapids/LA Galaxy playoff game. Rapids tied the series on aggregate goals with a 1-0 win in regulation time, played to a draw in overtime, and won on penalty kicks. A fucking awesome game. Their defense is stellar - possibly historically good for the MLS - so it will be fun to see how far they can go.

Klinsy is out. I think he'll actually be more well remembered over time for really building out us soccer's player development system, but he hasn't coached well at least since I started giving a shit about soccer.

Ha, it figured Wally started an American soccer thread. Good man, as was usually the case.

Watching my Rapids get completely mailed by Seattle. It's currently 4-0 and with I think we've gotten 1 shot on goal all game. Is the season over yet?

Hello,

FC Charlotte lost 1-0 in the 89th minute to New England in front of almost 70,000. The crowd was loud and enthusiastic but not very soccer-savvy.
