Stamina is definitely important and knowing that the rest of the team is behind him and pulling for him should give him the support he needs to not blow it early on.

Pressure to perform is a serious thing. Some guys can keep it up the whole time, others go limp when the action starts. Young guys tend not to worry, but that's the arrogance of youth.
