I don't think there's any way to see "The Thin Air" by Magazine as anything other than a Pink Floyd tribute song.

Speaking about Pink Floyd, they are one of the most overrated bands ever.

I dunno about over-rated, but I admit that I've never understood the appeal. I try every so often and come away feeling my time would have been better spent watching paint dry.

Exactly how I feel, can't understand the appeal either. I say overrated as so many of my mates wax lyrical (that's the expression yeah?) about them but when they put some on it's all a load of musical wank to me.

For sure, and perhaps the most boring.

I'm certainly no PF fanboy but Dark Side of the Moon is a pretty fantastic album.

I like it apart from the wailing vocal. All the Syd stuff is awesome.

Been saying that for years.

I like some Floyd, not all of it. Animals is probably my favorite of the post-Syd era.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Some of the stuff on Animals is pretty good.

Much of their music can be kind of slow and plodding.

Their appeal is mostly to stoners.

When a couple students identified as Floyd fans, that was my immediate conclusion. They haven't really dispelled my initial notion, either.

When you are stoned it is, pretty dull otherwise.

Yeah I'm just going by my experience in high school. I knew very few people who were fans and not stoners it was probably like a 90%/10% split.

Well I've listened to every Floyd album and I've never been stoned. I like bits of them all and I agree with eumaas that "Animals" is the best of the post Syd era. I will totally admit to being influenced by punk in my not liking them before I'd really heard them. "See Emily Play" may just be my favorite single of all time, certainly top 5.

I like Animals. Also, Radiohead is the Oink Floyd of the 90s.
