Ugh, I hated those games with the track ball in the arcade (Pole Position had that, too, I think). You ended up scraping skin off the palm of your hand.
It’s actually much better on a PC using a mouse, more control IMO.
Anything is better than than that ball. The amount of blood those things collectively drew could feed a vampire colony for a year.

When I saw "Vintage Videogaming" my first thought was that I wanted to post something about Monkey Island!? I loved, loved, loved those games back in the day. I have not yet played Return to Monkey Island, but it's on my to do list. LucasArts had some of the best games ever: Monkey Island series, Loom, The Dig, Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones, Full Throttle. I think most are still available on Steam.
Yeah, I'm really a LucasArts and Sierra adventure game guy of The Blessed Decade (although I guess I played some stuff from final twilight of the 80s as well). I like other vintage video game stuff, but it really always came back those adventure games for me (and shareware sidescrollers from the likes of Apogee, I suppose). I got more into RPGs in the 2000s. Aside from a few of the titans of the genre like Doom and Duke Nukem, never got into much first person shooters and so forth.

Gene, you GOTTA do it. They basically work as a trilogy, so good.

You kids need to appreciate the lessons learned from playing Leisure Suit Larry: getting laid is an imperative, but you’re probably gonna get rotten crotch from the experience, so adjust your expectations of life accordingly.

I used to think I was so cool for playing the leisure suit larry games as a pre-teen. Like finding a playboy in the woods, except for loser shut-ins.

I got it a while back but the keyboard encoder chip developed a fault. Just swapped in a replacement and it's back up and running.

Classic clackety-clack keyboard. My high school had IIc's and IIe's in its computer lab. I was a Commodore guy at home so I snorted at Apple.

The Commodore 64 had great sound and graphics, but the Apple II was a true hacker's computer. But yeah, I always wanted one of these since using them at school and was able to pick it up for $150.

I'd love to get a C64 too but they're harder to maintain than an Apple IIe. Every chip is socketed on this so it's easy to replace bad chips, and people make new cards for the Apple IIe all the time. I was just looking at a new ethernet card for the Apple IIe and supporting software. Absolutely nuts you can get on the internet with an Apple IIe now.

That's amazing. Would it be limited to just text?

Apparently you can do some streamed video and audio:

Huh. A certain psychedelic quality to how video is rendered.

I have a mechanical keyboard for my desk setup that does that clickety clack typing. It's so satisfying.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
