Has pizza become a type of stew? Okay, shape some dough into a platform, dump whatever the fuck you want on it, bake it, and there you go: pizza. It's like my mother making "Chinese food" in the 70s—any casserole but with chow mein noodles.

Isn't flatbread the generally accepted term for faux pizza?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Oct 2022, 9:18amHas pizza become a type of stew? What is your actual definition of pizza?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Oct 2022, 9:18amHas pizza become a type of stew? That's a good question when you actually have to state it. I think it's akin to Potter Stewart's pornography statement—I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. And a disc of dough with, say, carrots, almonds, and a fish head isn't pizza even if it has tomato sauce and cheese over it.Kory wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 6:09pmWhat is your actual definition of pizza?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Oct 2022, 9:18amHas pizza become a type of stew? I'm craving a slice of NYC pizza today. They really do have the best pizza in that city. There is a place I love called Vinnie's on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. Counter service only - you order from the sidewalk - but it's so good. Served on a paper plate with an ice cold Coke.

You ain't lying. I close my eyes and think about NY slice joints often. Suprema near Penn Station is a favorite of mine.WestwayKid wrote: ↑30 Nov 2022, 12:49pmI'm craving a slice of NYC pizza today. A lot of my go-to’s are gone.WestwayKid wrote: ↑30 Nov 2022, 12:49pmI'm craving a slice of NYC pizza today. They really do have the best pizza in that city. Rosario’s at Orchard and Rivington
Muzzarella on A btwn 13th and 14th
The Pizza Shop at 7th and A next to Niagara.
I lived around the corner from DiFara for a couple years. Still the best slice anywhere.
Totonno’s on Coney Island is amazing.
Pomodoro on Spring (vodka slice)
Spumoni Gardens in Bensonhurst for a square slice.
The “new guys” are great too.
Best Pizza in Williamsburg
Lucali in Brooklyn Heights

We stopped at three shops when we were there last week:modskint wrote: ↑15 Jul 2023, 9:41pmA lot of my go-to’s are gone.WestwayKid wrote: ↑30 Nov 2022, 12:49pmI'm craving a slice of NYC pizza today. Underground Pizza on Hanover Square in the Financial District. Pepperoni was fantastic - great cup and char with plenty of grease pooled up.
A&S Pizza on Staten Island. Friendly staff & service, but slice was just okay.
Anthony's in Park Slope. The sauce was great, but slice came out way too hot and then everything slid onto the paper plate while we were trying to eat it.

Yeah Detroit Style can be quite tasty. It got very popular around here in the last 5 or so years.
Florida Style sounds horrific and I'm known for my rather open minded approach to pizza.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
