Some regression to mean for previously overperforming pitchers and a down season for some otherwise usually reliably decent/good/excellent guys. It sucks, and there's probably questions to be asked around training and conditioning, but it also happens. It goes the other way too, like last year.
Yeah, you know this is all in hood fun. But Id have put a bet on Eovaldi reverting to form or less. He was frustrating as hell to watch when he was with the Yankees.

Eovaldi wasn't expected for me—bone chips can't be expected, can they?—but Sale wasn't a huge surprise. He'd broken down mid-season the last couple years, so this year wasn't that out of the blue, tho his crap pitching out of the gate was.

I mean, he was snakebit with injury and then kinda put in a position to fail in relief. Sort of the story of the season, pitching-wise. I'd be happy if he finished out the season with some adequete starts. Management-wise, the failure to put together a solid bullpen probably factors as much into the story as anything.

Addendum: Seeing Doc's response, I basically agree. You expect Sale to be down some of the time, although his performance when actually in the rotation was surprisingly bad. I expect the quality of his performance to rebound, even if we need to assume he'll get some DL time every season.

Holy crap. He hid it quite well as I never even came upon that as a rumour.

They split four at Fenway, so the winner of this series is the true champion of the season.

Watching has been infuriating the past few weeks, so i really havent been, but I think I can rally up for the Sox.

We were 5 games over .500 and were coming off 2 road wins vs the mighty LAD, when we returned home for a 1-6 homestand vs BAL & DET. Then a road sweep by CLE if I remember correctly. I haven't enjoyed a minute since. :( Just venting, I know we all got problems.

Breaking news: Mike Trout retires immediately to pursue his dream of playing in an Eagles tribute band.
