My thought was that there's now an extra ticket for paradise, unless it's some bullshit thing where his ticket was in his name only.

My sister made the comment/joke that he "cashed in his ticket to paradise and the Lord took him home tonight."

It's shocking that we should be familiar enough with his work to make jokes.

There’s a New England thing where when you hear a Cars song and a J. Geils song on the radio on the same day that you know summer has officially commenced. If being the front man wasn’t enough, he also produced Rock For Light which for my money is the greatest hard core record ever made.

Wow. He was much older than I imagined.

There was a time, when I was fully immersed in Top 40, that the Cars were my favourite band. I had all the albums, all the solo albums, a few bootlegs. My shitty town's lone record store had a poster of Heartbeat City and I asked the owner if I could buy it from him. He said it was promo and he couldn't sell it to me. But, a couple weeks later, I went in and he had it rolled up behind the counter and handed it over. I was thrilled beyond belief. All of which is to say that Ric meant a lot to me when I was a kid and becoming a music fan. Damn.
