I just read an interesting article about why they decided to finally reveal Snuffy as being real. Apparently, it was brought to CTW's attention that if kids felt they wouldn't be taken seriously (as Big Bird never was any time he talked about Snuffy), they would be less likely to report sexual abuse, etc.
