Oliver clothes off!

Post by Dr. Medulla »

The Boss and I were at the grocery store today and decided to get ingredients for Greek salad (aka the World's Most Perfect Salad), and she balked at getting black olives. If I wanted them, it'd just be on my portion. Me, I love olives, green or black. But plenty of people would rather kiss their sibling. Where do we stand as a community on this crucial issue?

Olives are great. I hated them when I was a child because children have shitty palates.

Same for me. I was probably forced try them once when I was a kid & I decided that I hated them. I didn't eat an olive again until I was in my early 20s. Love them now, especially in martinis. Same story for bananas.

Brussels sprouts for me. Of course, I have a theory that literally no one knew how to cook Brussels sprouts until about a decade ago.

EDIT: I think everyone should try the food they hated as a child at least once after they turn 25 or so.

Love them, all types.
I used to hate them but when I was on my honeymoon my wife and I went kayaking across a lake. It took a lot longer than anticipated and when we got to the other side we were starving. The only food was at an expensive lodge and I only had a $20 note so the only thing we could afford was an olive platter. We ate everything on the plate and I have loved olives ever since.

I love black olives. Green olives I can live with but am not especially fond of them.

I like most olives, but prefer either kalamata or green. Black are okay, but a bit bland.

Love em. Like sprouts and blue cheese, didn't like them when I was younger but love them now.

I refused to eat Chinese food when I was a kid and would make my Dad go to the chippy for me whenever the family got Chinese takeaways.

Love the brininess of olives. Kalamata are my favorites, but I can suck down a can of black olives like a Hoover deluxe. The kind with the pimento in the middle, if I can recall, I can do without. I haven't eaten them in decades so I can't remember.

I'm the outlier - can't stand 'em. I love dirty martinis though.

I think the problem stems from the time when I was a kid and bit into what I thought was a grape, and it was a black olive.
