Fernando Valenzuela pitched for six teams in his career, but other than the Dodgers I wouldn't be able to name a single one. He also pitched well into the 1990s, which is another surprise.
I think he pitched a no hitter for SD, and played for a minute with the Angels. Beofre I use the internet, I wanna say St Louis.

Yup, after checking, cups of coffee in BAL and PHI as well

EDIT* hios no hitter was NOT as a Padre, I dont know why I thought that
Your knowledge was still way ahead of mine. In my memory, he was basically untouchable for two years and then flamed out. I was amazed that his career was so long.

6x All Star, 4x Top 5 Cy Young in his first 7 seasons*, and a FUCKLOAD of CGs, Tommy blew him out.

* his 19yo season was less than 20 innings

Fernando's teammate Dusty Baker looked at it all and thought, "Yeah, if I ever get to manage, I'm gonna ride pitchers just like that."

That's what was done though back in those days. Not arguing for it by any means but Im also not convinced the innings limits help either.

Every person is different and their size and delivery all play a role in this too. As well as how good a team they have behind them. If you're convinced the only way to get am out is thru a strikeout that probably isn't good for you either.

Sure, complete games used to be more common, but pitchers didn't throw as hard back then. Even if pitchers are more muscular now, primarily throwing gas is hard on the tendons. Junk ballers, to the degree that they still exist, are better suited to throwing nine innings without blowing out their arms. So many aspects of the game have changed to encourage limiting innings.

Yeah, thats the way it was for sure. Nowadays everybody's gotta throw into the mid - upper 90s, the avergae FB speed keeps getting higher and higher.
Unnatural for a human to do that.

So a 60 game season is coming.

After 9 innings, teams start with a runner on 2nd base.

DH in both leagues is the only positive development. I want a fluke World Series between, like, the Padres and Orioles.

Not sure the Pads would be a fluke except you'd somehow have to get past the juggernaut that the Dodgers are likely to be. Friars gonna be good in a few years with that stupidly stocked farm system. The O's on the other hand are going to be an abyss for years...which I won't complain about.

I'm not a fan of the DH. Being in a NL market, I love the strategy of having to work around the pitcher in the batting order. I'm a lifelong fan, but I'm not tied to tradition too much. This is just one rule I wish they wouldn't monkey with.

The strategy argument is exaggerated, imo. 99% of decisions about whether a pitcher feebly waves at three pitches, bunts, or is pulled for a pinch hitter can be predicted by even Harold Reynolds. I'd rather have a hitter who is up there to hit, not trying to avoid getting hurt while making an out. If pitchers were legit hitters, sure, I'd say forget the DH. But pitchers hitting isn't interesting at all.

I remember the days when the Brewers were an AL team and had some good DHs
