I was the primary care giver for my mom for 15+ years and while it did stunt my life in terms of relationships and career, she was an awesome lady who was a kid during "the great depression" and she deserved to live in her own home under her own terms as her life progressed and even with all the problems I have had because of that, I am really glad that I did what I did for her and if I had to make the choice all over again, knowing then what I know now, i'd still make the same choice.

Yes, I am paying the price for that now (and every day) in my life, but I know in my heart and soul that I did the right thing by her and I have no regrets about how my decision made her last 15+ years happy ones for her. That outweighs the regrets I have about how my choice affected my life.

Also while she passed in 2009 4 days short of her 90th birthday, thankfully she was still with it mentally until the end, and I know how grateful she was that I took care of her, I am glad she didn't have to live through this pandemic.

Yet this is how evolution works. Those capable of adapting to environmental changes so as to survive and reproduce continue on; those incapable of doing so die out. You can certainly over-apply the principle here, but, yeah, those who have been willing to adapt and adjust are in a better position going forward than those guided by obstinacy.
