While on the subject, what was the rationale behind the name? Always curious about that stuff.

I contracted chicken pox from my brother when I was 15, pretty late for most people. It was agony, and I later used the name as my "nom de punk" for a number of bands that I was in at the time. It seemed appropriately snotty in a Johnny Rotten sort of way.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 5:39pmWhile on the subject, what was the rationale behind the name? Always curious about that stuff.

Heh, that's pretty good all around. Except for the adolescent chicken pox part, I guess.Kory wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 6:22pmI contracted chicken pox from my brother when I was 15, pretty late for most people. I had it as a kid—pre-vaccine days—but have no recollection of the experience. I was probably 3 or 4 at the time.Kory wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 7:35pmYeah it was rough. Is there a vaccine for it now? I had it in 5th grade, age 11, when it swept through our elementary school. I don't remember it being too bad, and was thrilled to have 2 weeks to stay home from school.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 7:44pmI had it as a kid—pre-vaccine days—but have no recollection of the experience. I think since the 90s a vaccine has been available. No coincidence that Bill Gates was all-powerful at the time!Kimmelweck wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 7:49pmIs there a vaccine for it now? Re: The Coronavirus Thread Of Good News
Oh that’s cool, I hadn’t heard. Back in the day, we’d get vaccinated the old-fashioned way. By going to play with some kid who had it. I remember in general that parents wanted us to get it around that age so we wouldn't get it when we were older.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 8:01pmI think since the 90s a vaccine has been available. Anti-vaxxers are into measles parties and the like. I understand the utility when there was no vaccine available, but now it's madness to intentionally risk your kid's health like that.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 9:24pmOh that’s cool, I hadn’t heard. Yup, I agree. Back then it was like a simple rite of passage. Not the only case where yesterday’s good parenting is today’s child abuse.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 9:39pmAnti-vaxxers are into measles parties and the like.
