It wasn't that he was opposed to giving dubs to others, it was that he was basically using them as bargaining chips for other stuff like Sigue Sigue Sputnik recordings.

Ugh, fuck those guys. I knew a guy in the late 90s, early 00s who had a lot of hard-to-find and/or super-expensive cd's. He didn't sell cd-r's, only traded. And he had a very specific list, insisted on specific brand of cd-r, and you had to inkjet on glossy photo paper the sleeves. A serious pain in the ass. But I did obtain some Wire-related cd's that I couldn't find anywhere else. Share freely or hoard, but making people jump thru hoops for your own profit is shitty.

Agreed. I still regret the amount I paid for some CD’rs of rare Clash / Strummer tracks on Ebay in pre file sharing days.

I bought some actual Pogues singles on ebay but never put out too much cash. And I freely traded with people back in the day but never refused or held stuff hostage because someone didnt have what I wanted.
