The Mark Trail Thread of Punching Justice and Smug Life Lessons

Sweet action for kids 'n' cretins. Marjoram and capers.

Further evidence that the current direction of the strip is to tell all the previous readers to bugger off. As I said before, there are ways to gradually change the strip's direction and diversify the audience, and there are ways of letting everyone know that if you liked the old MT, go screw.

So much so that as far as I know, in the hundreds and thousands of words posted here, no one has ever used it in that sense. Common to a certain demo, sure, but not common common.

I guess not hip to the lingo that the kids are using these days.
Mark is "driving into a storm," eh?

Probably a metaphorical storm as well as a literal one.

I have a friend who works in a warehouse and she ships all day long.

But seriously what is the demographic for this term? I work with people 10 to 20+ years younger, I have a kid in her early 20s and one who is a teen. Never heard it. Same with nieces and nephews.

Sure, I'd never dispute that (esp. me and revbob). But very common should suggest that people here would, if not use it, have heard of it.

Out of curiosity, I asked my students at the start of class if they knew what it meant. Of those who responded, all the women did, only one guy was familiar. So it might also be a gendered term.

It’s fairly common among teens and twenty somethings, especially online. It leads me to the inescapable opinion maybe y’all aren’t the target demo? Just move to Mary Worth.

That's what I said. You're the one who said it's very common, as if we all should know what it means. And I've been saying that JR seems driven to purge the original audience rather than diversify it.

My thesis is y’all are the minority and this is diversifying the audience.

Predicated on the belief that for years people have been reading MT and most wishing it was radically different?

Predicated on the belief that statistically speaking almost no one has actually been reading it at all except via Comics Curmudgeon.

And there just aren’t enough irony-poisoned Xers specifically hate-reading a dinosaur strip to make it an institution.

That’s my final word on this and I’m leaving this thread alone. If this is fun for you, by all means go on.
