I almost learned bass in high school because my friends’ band needed one so bad, but my sticking point was that they had to buy it for me. They considered it!Silent Majority wrote: ↑07 Aug 2020, 11:22amYou did, you had a solid bass player look.Wolter wrote: ↑07 Aug 2020, 11:20amSilent Majority wrote: ↑07 Aug 2020, 11:18amI think my look could see me fronting a really shit celtic-punk band. My favourite description of dissipated James @ 30 came from my mate Ric, who said I looked like the surly bartender from an inn in a fantasy film from 2003, who gets his arse kicked by a mysterious hero seeking information.
I definitely *used* to look like I played bass in a bad punk band. More than one person assumed I was in a band by how I looked in my early 20s. But now I look like the comic relief lab tech who is murdered halfway through a scifi horror movie.

Ha, that was quite good.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

First time I saw Hold Steady in 07, I went to the merch booth to get a shirt before the show. Convo went like this:
"Hey thanks. Is the band around?" - me
"Nah, they are at the hotel I think." - merch guy
"Ahh, banging groupies." - me
"Have you seen those guys? I get more play than they do." - merch guy

I was embarrassed by how much he sounded like me regarding Bruno Mars. Though I don't quite have the punk credentials.

To be fair, my band has turned up at gigs and they thought we were the blokes who'd come to do the painting and decorating. "Ah, you're the band!"
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
