I'm in total shock to read he passed away on September 18th. RIP my friend.

I am completely stunned. I hope his family find comfort in the fact that he was loved internationally. RIP.

Utterly horrible news. A good and noble man and a vital part of our community. We won't forget you and what you brought to us. I hope there's an afterlife and it's non-stop 2 Tone, man.

I never met the bloke but not ashamed to admit I'm shedding a few tears here. You build can up strong friendships, even on the internet. I will miss him.

Same, mate. I've absolutely had the wind knocked out of me and the tears are welling. I felt like we'd be chatting with him forever. He had been a constant part of our lives, for me more consistently than non-online friends.

Yes same here. Some might think it silly but damn this hurts. He was way too young and holy shit this sucks. I always hoped like with all of you that we might somehow meet some day.

This place will never be the same.

Wow. I was just cleaning up my work computer yesterday and I found that "Casbah Club" poster I did for him a year or two ago. I only knew him a fraction of the time the rest of you did, but I always enjoyed his comments and opinions. When I mentioned I wanted to start listening to more ska, he enthusiastically provided me a list of recommendations and answered my seemingly endless list of questions on the genre. Rest in peace, 101. You're already missed.

Oh my god. This is awful news.

This is terrible news..He was the first who replied to me on Satch's Forums, almost 20 years ago. It's true, this place will not be the same without him.

Rest in peace, my friend.

Holy shit, this is really awful. I did some research and found his daughter's Instagram. Apparently he had a long battle with cancer. I really hope I didn't miss him mentioning it here, but that comes as a complete surprise to me.

Has anyone reached out to his family? I was thinking of sending something on behalf of all of us to his daughter to pass on to his family if everyone is okay with that.

Oof, he was one of the regulars. Like everyone here, I've chatted with him probably more than most people in my life over the last 14 years.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I posted something in the remembrance book.

By all means send something to his daughter/family.

I can't recall him ever mentioning it, it's a shame he never got the chance to say goodbye, though maybe that would have been worse. And yes, that's a good idea, though I don't know if he may have liked his presence on the board to be something private. He never hooked up with anyone from the board on FB etc. I'd hate my family to scroll through the bullshit I've wrote on here when I pass away. But do what you think is apt.

He never let on that he was ill, and according to the activity log, he last checked in here (but didn't post) three days before he passed. All kinds of reasons for not letting people know, but I do wish we had a chance to tell him that he was dearly loved by the regulars here. I hope he understood that regardless.

If you're up for sending a message to the family, please do and let them know how much he meant to us. And that we all know he was the spitting image of a young George Best.
