Unless he moves to DH, he's getting traded to Detroit or Texas or some other penal island.

Didn't they fire Girardi for this?

Technically, his contract expired and wasn't renewed. My memory is that there were doubts that he wasn't connecting with the young players.

Maybe they just wanted ice cream after a game (Girardi banned junk food from the locker room because, I dunno, no facial hair wasn't dick-ass enough).

Either way a gently used catcher/DH will be on the market soon.

I like the idea of making him a DH but I dont think he can handle the pressure. He's secondary market material. Which isn't a knock plenty of people have trouble with intense scrutiny.

The problem with DH, to me, is that longer term, the team has several good candidates for that position. And if you put Sanchez in at DH and he still flops, his value completely plummets. Trading him makes too much sense, tho Cashman has a habit of only doing trades in which the other side gets fleeced. Which is great—duh—when it works, but trading comparable value isn't a bad thing.

The MLB thread hasn't been the same without Ratty doing PR work for Cashman's genius.

Good enough to be worth watching. I'm still skeptical that the pitching is built for a full season.

Their record seems to reinforce that hypothesis.

Whatever my measured doubt about this season, the Bloom/Cora team at top gives me great confidence about the team going forward. The best guys since since Epstein/Francona.
