Re: MLB 2021
They've gone with Cleveland Guardians... which sounds like a high-school lacrosse team? Logo's pretty cool though:

Re: MLB 2021
I don't get that name at all. Really generic and, unless it's super local knowledge, no connection to the region or its history. Spiders was such an obvious choice, historically and aesthetically (so many neat things you can do with that name for promotion purposes). Oh well, bland is better than offensive, so a step up.
edit: Learned that there's some statues in Cleveland known as the Guardians, so, okay, cool.

Let's quickly do a better job than some high paid marketing people:
Spiders
River Burners
Rock Stars
They have a big parade with these Slovenian costumes, name the team after them!

Re: MLB 2021
I think the new name and logo are pretty decent. I'd have liked Spiders, but I get not wanting to throw back to an all-time horrible team history (plus, they were a different franchise). There's a neat local/regional connection with the name and I can see it being spun off with a lot of different vibes/takes which is good. I like the lettering on the new unis too. Overall, decent job.

Just saw a clip of Tito speaking at the p.c. for the name change. His voice was gravelly, which may have been a cold or something, but holy hell has he gotten big. Maybe not full on fat, but he's definitely husky.

Just watched this presser. Tito has not been going to bed hungry and/or he's on meds that bloat him up. I believe he has some auto-immune stuff going on that might be puffing him up. It took me a full year to lose 20 pounds at 46 and I can put that weight back on over a weekend. This metabolism shit it real!Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 6:12pmJust saw a clip of Tito speaking at the p.c. for the name change. That makes sense that it's drug bloat. I know he's had all kinds of health issues dating back to his time in Boston.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 12:20amJust watched this presser. Re: MLB 2021
Yeah, that shit ain't easy. I can't help but wonder how much Boone's recent heart issues have affected his effectiveness as a manager. Not that he's ever been some great tactician, but is he gunshy of really committing in the moment now?revbob wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 6:45amThe stress of the job sure aint helping.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 6:37amThat makes sense that it's drug bloat. I just saw the Yanks had a no-hitter so I put the game on. The next pitch broke up the no-no. I am an MVP!
