One of the few advantages we have against the wealthy is their ego. Very few of the really care if they're hated (and those are the ones who just don't court the press). They also—often desperately—want adulation. Musk, for example, is transparently thirsty to be seen as a cool kid. Letting them know that they are loathed, that isn't the fake news they convince themselves of, can undermine their confidence. There are very few politicians who get into the game because they don't care about personal validation. Clinton was desperate for it, so was LBJ. Trump doesn't exist if he doesn't dominate the spotlight. The Bushes and Bidens were pretty solid in not needing that public love, Obama was hard to read on that point, but growing up without a father I lean toward him needing validation.
