I remember when Sean Flynn left us all with a mighty fuck you. He and I were on good terms and he PM'd me to say that we're like a high school cafeteria, rehashing the same dumb stuff every noon hour. He wasn't entirely wrong, but missed the importance of variations on themes and just the comfort of yakking with people who have, after all these years, become another level of family. Not everything in life has to be about novelty. There's real pleasure in jokes and conversations that draw from years and years of context.

The Internet used to be good, having more four functional websites. This is a living bit of history at this point.

Honestly. It's become so monopolized. Not to mention hyper politicized. Everyone used to be so much nicer. I remember going on old school geo cities websites, and despite their shitty look, there was a wholesomeness about it. This shitty little webpage made by an average person. Now everything has been corporate takeovered and we can order 50 different varieties of non GMO Kefir shakes. Such is the trajectory of life, and the world in general I suppose. Anyways, It's just really nice to see people exchanging genuine ideas and being nice to each other on here. A last of a dying breed indeed.Silent Majority wrote: ↑03 Apr 2021, 7:53pmThe Internet used to be good, having more four functional websites. This is a living bit of history at this point.

To be fair, I think the well-developed community and its personality or ethos can be a challenge for many. People who accept that we've evolved beyond just straight Clash talk tend to integrate well. Those who expect a celebration of the Clash and nothing more get frustrated and don't stick around. Plus, like any long-standing community, there's a lot of inside jokes and grumpiness that can seem impenetrable to newcomers. I mean, I think we're happy to absorb new blood and all, but, however unconsciously, there is a do-as-the-Romans expectation that's built into the community now. Accepting us as we are is the basic entry fee.RockNRollWhore wrote: ↑03 Apr 2021, 8:00pmHonestly. It's become so monopolized. Not to mention hyper politicized. Everyone used to be so much nicer. Lol the Clash fucking suck. Who wants to celebrate those fuckers. But yeah I could see how a forum centered exclusively around the discussion of one band could stagnate fairly quickly. Especially when said band only released 6 albums, and disbanded close to 40 years ago. Honestly this forum is still pretty solid as far as general music discussion goes. The reddit r/letstalkmusic forum is basically an endless circlejerk of the same topics over and over again. Not to mention it's terribly pedantic being a forum made up of such strangers. Really dry discussion and not much humor.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑03 Apr 2021, 8:30pmTo be fair, I think the well-developed community and its personality or ethos can be a challenge for many. It said you had 920 users online in 2020... Was this forum truly that active so recently?

Did that include all the bots?RockNRollWhore wrote: ↑03 Apr 2021, 8:59pmIt said you had 920 users online in 2020... Was this forum truly that active so recently?
Id say there's probably less than 100 regular, active users.
I tried checking out a Black Sabbath board and it didn't take. I was probably expecting too much from it and the people there.
