Virtual Reality

Post by coffeepotman »

Anybody have any experience with VR? I saw an amazing VR demonstration at a local Banksy exhibit and it blew me away so I impulsively bought an Oculus VR set up. Now I don't know what to do with it, I don't like gaming and have no interest in interacting with some teenager from the other side of the world.

It's cool to watch music on, the videos are amazing even your standard 2d movies and videos are incredible. Anything shot in 3d or 360 is just amazing to watch. Seeing my own performances are really mindblowing I'm on a giant movie screen.

It's hard to describe if you haven't seen it. Wondering what the hive mind thinks?

Yeah, no interest in gaming or talking with some stranger, but I'd be interested in something like that sightseeing from your own home. Touring ancient places would be cool and finally affordable. I'd also use vr for cycling/rowing, provided the tech shrinks enough that it's light and unobtrusive enough like regular glasses or sports goggles.

I haven't dived in too much but the few videos I've seen for tourism are pretty amazing. There is a whole sport/exercise component to it too.

Hello,

Last year at the USC (soccer) coaching convention I was given an opportunity to use a VR training system for goalkeepers. I could see the stands, the field, everything 360. I had sensors on my feet, hips, chest, and hands. I saved a couple of free kicks - didn't get to try free play stuff, just set pieces. It's amazing the speed at which it transferred my movements to the events I was viewing. It wasn't that expensive - you rented the app, the company handled pretty much everything for $100/month.

I've always wanted to climb Everest without the actual hassle of having to go do it. Maybe I'll finally get to achieve it now.

I'm sorta in to "geek" stuff like computers and electronics, but I haven't done much research on VR, probably because it's expensive and I've got enough costly hobbies. But similar to what Low Down Low had mentioned, it would be fun to virtually visit someplace I'll probably never be able to see in person, such as Everest.

Oh, I don't think anyone would use it for prurient reasons. People are more respectful of new technology than that.

Hello,

Well, the goalkeeper VR had hand and hip senors that could be adapted for porn VR - or maybe the goalkeeper VR evolved from porn VR.

Porn huh? Well then it would be like if you're in to group sex but not allowed to join in. You can look but can't touch
