I know it's formally inconsistent, but I don't have a problem with players doing blow or taking greenies, but I'm firmly opposed to steroids, HGH, and other muscle-building drugs. I know that they're all performance enhancing, but I just don't place amphetamines in the same objectionable camp.

In Mets history, that's already been done.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Jan 2022, 10:10pmI can see Dave legging out a triple, but missing and first and second in the process.
"Marvelous" Marv Throneberry, 1962, Mets' first season.
Taken from the Wikipedia page of Marv:
In one famous story, on June 17, Throneberry hit a triple against the Cubs, but was called out after Ernie Banks took a relay throw and stepped on second base. "Didn't touch the bag, you know, Dusty," Banks told umpire Dusty Boggess. According to the legend, Throneberry was called out at second and Stengel came out to argue the call, but he was told by the umpire "Don't bother arguing, Casey, he missed first base, too." (In another version of the story, Stengel was told this by his first-base coach.) Stengel, after a pause, supposedly replied, "Well, I know he touched third base because he's standing on it!"
The next batter, Charlie Neal, hit a home run, prompting Stengel to come out of the dugout following him and pointing at all four bases.

There has been research into steroid use in kids as young as 8th grade. The point about it trickling down is correct. Additionally, kids generally won't be able to afford the "good" PED's - instead going to shady dealers online or elsewhere.

Re: MLB 2022
Casey Stengel supposedly said that his secret of management was to keep the guys who hated him from the guys who were undecided. So, sure, there's always going to be bozos and cheats, but normalizing it—encouraging it—is to normalize shitty behaviour. I mean, that's part of the wretched ongoing legacy of Trump, right, that he's normalized and encouraged the worst behaviour in people who weren't down that road or at least felt some reluctance about expressing it in public.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑15 Jan 2022, 12:49pmThere will always be stupid kids looking up to even stupider adults.revbob wrote: ↑14 Jan 2022, 4:29pmYou may have won back over...Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Jan 2022, 3:50pmI guess if I want to make a serious push back at what he says is that if that becomes the standard for pro performance, it'd necessarily filter down to younger and younger ages. Papi is the only member of the Class of 2022 Hall of Fame. Bonds, Clemens, and Schitler all drop off the ballot. Pretty good result all around.

edit: Slightly more seriously, he has undoubtedly worn that stuff and looked at himself in the mirror and smiled—that's 100% certain.
