That's a bit surprising. I mean, I don't follow the doings of the Phillies, but Girardi has seemed upper tier manager to me.

Re: MLB 2022
Girardi is a decent manager overall, but his handling of pitching staffs (read: bullpen) has always been a bit questionable, even when he was managing the Yankees (whose bullpen was stacked with talent), and I think that was a factor in the Phillies letting him go. To be fair, Joe did not compile the roster in Philly, he could only use who he had, but as we all know, managers are hired to be fired and he will take the fall for poor roster construction which directly led to poor on-field results. His closer blew a bunch of games, was that Girardi's fault? The team is not good defensively, is that Girardi's fault? Clearly some of their woes were things Girardi might have been liable for but he's just the latest Phillies manager to pay the price for poor organizational decisions made by people higher up the food chain than any manager.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑03 Jun 2022, 12:49pmThat's a bit surprising. Being a Mets fan, I have a difficult time finding compassion in my soul for the Phillies in general and Girardi in particular but I do feel bad for Girardi, he had to have known the Phillies' recent history and yet he took the job anyway, knowing that being a part of such a dysfunctional organization like the Phillies could ruin his managerial reputation and any hopes of managing in the major leagues ever again.
As I have heard many many Mets fans chant over the decades, Phuck the Phillies.
Sentiment I can certainly relate to. lol..
From what I see there's still a little hope

A Dave Dombrowski team with a sketchy bullpen?!? Tigers and Red Sox fans' monocles clutter to the floor!weller259 wrote: ↑03 Jun 2022, 2:59pmGirardi is a decent manager overall, but his handling of pitching staffs (read: bullpen) has always been a bit questionable, even when he was managing the Yankees (whose bullpen was stacked with talent), and I think that was a factor in the Phillies letting him go. And thus all the managers named Joe have been purged this week. Exactly as Joe Biden demanded.

The '88 Orioles have the modern-day MLB record at 21-straight losses. The Angels are only two-thirds of the way there. Can they do it?

Anthony Rendon might be the worst FA signing of all time. And Josh Hamilton is still fresh in my mind.
