I take back the RIP about Meat Loaf, good riddance: https://www.thedailybeast.com/meat-loaf-dies-at-74
Good for him: dying while gasping for air instead of living like a breathing slave.

I've never been comfortable wishing death on anyone, but I won't lie, in those four years, I checked the headlines for such an announcement.
Obese and in a permanent state of rage, he seemed perfect for a dead-before-he-hits-the-ground stroke. Hopefully a sense of walls closing in will accelerate all that.
You see people like him, still upright, and you wonder, why bother keeping myself healthy? I can be a fat fuck and still live a long life.
He really is blessed with a resilient body. Unfortunately. 19/20 people with his diet and personality would have been dead long ago.
Presidents get insane health care in office. Last president not to make it to his 90s was Nixon who died in his 80s.
Indeed, somehow Dick Cheney is still alive.

Louie Anderson.

Holy fuck.
Man, didn’t know much of his work beyond Life With Louie, but that was a really endearing show.

I keep reading the word "legendary" to describe Meatloaf. What adjective would they use for an artist who had TWO hit songs?

Wasn't Bat Out of Hell a massive seller?

Just checked, it sold as much as Cracked Rear View. No one is calling Hootie legendary. And I'm a 90s aficionado.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

We can at least thank Meat Loaf for that lost Clash classic album Spirit of St. Louis. I mean, would Mick have met Ellen if Meat Loaf hadn’t practically single-handedly made Ellen Foley a household name? So thanks Meats. Thanks. :shifty:

Everything.

The ripple effects of Meat Loaf’s career can’t be overstated.

Also, side note, I had no idea Ellen Foley did backing vocals on “Car Jamming”, but that’s what it says on her Wikipedia page. I thought she just did some stuff on Sandinista!

Yeah I can hear her now that you mention it, especially on the “Don’t you love our Western ways” line.
