On the naysaying note, watching the video was prompted partly by us catching the first episode of the KITH revival. My wife is a couple years younger than me, and had never heard of the show (she did recognize Dave Foley).

Her verdict was "not as funny as SNL", there was a decent chunk of humor that relies on familiarity with the cast or old gags that she didn't get, and she said she didn't like the fact there weren't any women in the cast. Fair enough.

I thought the first episode was decent, I watched the second one and thought it was much more solid tho. I'll be having to catch up on the new season when I'm by myself though, apparently.
That's legit in that there's a fair amount of meta humour in this season related to their age and history. Without that context—easiest example, the albatross of Brain Candy—it could be impenetrable.

I would have watched the old episodes with her first.
I wonder how well those hold up to new viewers. I feel like showing classic State or SNL skits to younger people today would be like my parents showing me the Land Shark or whatever sketches from SNL in the 70s.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The Kids were interviewed on CBC before the new season, and the interviewer mentioned that a number of sketches wouldn't get past network censors now. All but Bruce bristled at that. Scott is especially adamant that artists be able to do whatever the hell they want. Bruce, tho, said it's important for artists to be more reflective about the social implications of their work.

I agree with this, I think its an indication of a person's willingness to grow as an individual and a member of wider society.

This is kind of tangential, but a couple years ago, we had an incident on campus where an instructor used a racial slur during a discussion, which led to a much wider discussion across campus about appropriate language in the classroom. On one side were those who claimed total free speech as the only way one could teach (as if we don't self-censor ourselves already) and on the other were those who argued that it's important to be sensitive to the changing culture around us, that we're not in a bubble, and we need to be open to reconsidering how we approach things. In a discussion with historians about this, I commented that it's a curious thing that historians of all people could be resistant to the idea of change. What it really amounts to, I believe, is that the one set of academics resent that a bunch of jerkass kids should have any input into how they teach. I am god, do not challenge me! (And then complain that students aren't being critical thinkers, only regurgitating for a passing grade. Huh.)

He didn't quite make it to June 21st, which is the official kickoff for the "Summer Breeze" portion of the year.

So close to predicting comedy musical duo Garfunkel and Oates there.

Yet Pablo Cruise goes on, probably at shitty casinos and Republican fundraisers.

That's a case where I recognized the name and the face, but didn't know they were connected.

The name honestly wouldn't have meant much to me either even though I've seen him in so many things including Curb and Seinfeld. He was outstanding in the latter, why he'll always be Joe Bookman to me, i guess, no disrespect intended!
