Willie Stargell is also an excellent baseball name.
It certainly is. Willie is my favorite baseball player of all time. The coolest thing for me as an 8-year-old was finding the occasional Willie Stargell in a pack of baseball cards. Funny, I hate the Steelers and Penguins, but have always loved the Pirates, largely because of Stargell.
I have the dvd set to the Pirates 1979 WS. It was the first WS I watched from start to finish as a kid, and it amazed me how the Pirates could be down 3-1 and somehow come back to win. Bless those hideous bumblebee uniforms.
Our minor league team in Buffalo, the Bisons, was Pittsburgh’s farm team back then. They wore the exact same bumblebee uniforms, but with “Bisons” instead of “Pirates”, or a “B” instead of a “P”. I had one of those goofy, horizontal-lined, flat-topped pillbox Pirates ballcaps that I got in Cooperstown. It’s probably still in a closet somewhere at my parents’ house.

Willie came up with the idea of awarding stars to guys to put on their hats when teammates thought they did something exceptional. Sucks if you're the guy who never gets one, tho.

I can’t recall if my Pirates cap came with any unearned stars on it or not. Shit. I'll have to look for that thing.

This is from his wikipedia page:

After Stargell died [in 2001 at age 61] Joe Morgan said, "When I played, there were 600 baseball players, and 599 of them loved Willie Stargell. He's the only guy I could have said that about. He never made anybody look bad and he never said anything bad about anybody."

I can believe that. He and Hank Aaron come to mind as the guys from that generation of ballplayers who led by example and were loved and respected for it.

Enh, we got a head start on your former lizard queen. I think we get to be a bit prematurely giddy about evil people not stealing our air.

Someone's lizard queen but never mine. This thread would be full of fuckers we would love to see dead if we go the premature route. But I sincerely agree with you that the sooner Pope Shyster leaves this world the better.

Damn, I just finished reading Defying Gravity: Jordan's Story and I was going to Google Vivienne to see what she was up to.
