I hope so. I did Google Russell Wilson just in case, though he appears fine and well.

Hello,

Bill Russell was a great player who never really gets his due respect and mention - 11 NBA championships, 5 MVP's - Jordan-esque numbers.

Yeah, bill Russell. Don't know why I did that

Edit: probably it's just from hearing about Russell Wilson nonstop since he signed with the broncos

Vin Scully :(
Hello,

This is sad. Vin Scully was the definition of class among sportscasters. RIP.

I swore vin scully died like 15 years ago.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

He made it seem so easy. Just share some stories, relate the action. Don't worry about seeming hip or think the broadcast was about him, just let the game do the heavy lifting. No cynicism to it all. He was the antithesis of virtually all broadcasters today.

I remember reading - probably here - that in Vin's earliest broadcasting days he called a game/games that still included a manager (am I remembering that correctly?) who had been around since the 1800s. So Vin was the connective tissue from the dawn of the sport to the game in the 21st century. Quite a life.

He joined the Dodgers' staff in 1950. That team was helmed by Burt Shotton, who had taken over when Leo the Lip went to the Giants. Shotton made his major league debut with the St. Louis Browns in 1909!

If spring training counts, Vin had a connection to Connie Mack, who first played baseball around 1745.
