Fuck, Neal Adams
I heard he'd been in hospital not long ago, so maybe not a huge shock given his age. The first time I encountered his art was a glossy collection of his brief X-Men issues, and I was stunned. So bold and realistic.
I love Kirby, but one has to admit he was phoning in the X-Men. Adams is one of the fathers of modern comics.
I was thinking about my favourite comic book artists the other day. And the only two that I flat out love are Darwyn Cooke and Steve Ditko. Cooke in particular is someone whose work I feel comfortable describing as beautiful.
I've been looking for a copy of a Catwoman book that Cooke did called Selina's Big Score. I'm not a DC guy at all but Catwoman has been on my radar lately because of a new miniseries.
I have the trade of his Catwoman stuff. Brubaker and Cooke? Fuckin' yeah.
My list of favorite artists would be much longer than yours. Why do you hate art so much? You some kind of hater?
Plenty of artists I like—Kirby, Andru, Byrne, Epting, Sale (actually, Sale could be up there with Cooke and Ditko)—but very few totally capture my imagination like those two.

Doc feels about art the way you feel about "funny" music

The mini I’m reading right now, Lonely City by Cliff Chiang, is quite good. Catwoman gets out of prison after 10 years, and is creaky and rusty. Batman died during the events of Fool’s Night and Harvey Dent is the mayor. Selina pulls a team together to break into the batcave for reasons I don’t want to spoil here, but I recommend it.

Naomi Judd
I associate her primarily with a line on The Larry Sanders Show when Hank had introduced her as The Judd, later explaining, “She was half The Judds. Now there’s just one of them. So she is a Judd, she is a single Judd!”

Yeah it’s still ongoing. I believe the final issue is out in August.

Then, sir, I shall make a note to consider your recommendation!

Hello,

As an odd coincidence, I was just listening to No Lunch yesterday for the first time in many years. RIP, Howie.
