Barrett Strong was an absolute legend. Not only did he give Motown one of their first hits with "Money", but he then partnered with Norman Whitfield to become one of their most formidable and successful writing and production teams.

They were put in charge of the Temptations in 1966 after Smokey Robinson's "Get Ready" failed to hit the top-20 and ushered in the era of Psychedelic Soul: "I Can't Get Next to You" and "Cloud Nine" and "Ball of Confusion" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and so many more. It's some of my favorite Motown from the classic Detroit era.

Rest in peace, indeed, and thank you for the music!
