Wow. It looks like a Norman Rockwell painting.
That was it! I couldn't come up with the words.
The crowd is so restrained, too.
This crowd wouldn't be so restrained if they heard about PK Subban. :shifty:

Hello,

If you haven't watched any of the 4 Nations Face-Off, the NHL's version of an All-Star game, watch a game Monday evening. It's been pretty intense and pretty good. The NBA is having a lot of problems with players not wanting to play, not playing defense, lounging, etc. - the game tonight between the USA and Canada had an old-fashioned, minor league-ish, drop-the gloves fight. Players are playing!

It's been such a fun watch. I hope they keep this format.

Hello,

It was a good game. I've read a few things about the fights. One reported that Tkachuk said to Hagel "There's not enough energy in the house - wanna go?" - there's other things kind of along the same lines. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-canada- ... al-anthem/

I'm looking forward to tonight. This format is really good. Imagine if they allow a Russian team!

I won't be watching (hockey just doesn't interest me), but the final between Canada and the US is going to be massively big here given … stuff. I was only a few years old when the 1972 Summit Series happened (so I have zero memory of it), but it, and especially Paul Henderson's winning goal, is still as big a sports moment as any in this country. It easily ranks up there with any Super Bowl or World Series or Olympics moment for the US in terms of significance and national myth.

Hello,

The USA-Canada rematch should be really good - for both the perception of the impact of the fights but also it'll be a good match between two very good teams. I'll bet both teams don't bother with fights as much as playing a good game and getting the win. Even if you're not a hockey fan, you should be able to appreciate the level of competition as well as the skill of both teams. Watch the game Thursday.

Number one, how dare you not like hockey. :shifty:

Number two, it certainly makes things more exciting than your average all-star game.

I am, in most things, a shitty Canadian. I don't think I've watched a hockey game (aside from highlights) since the 90s.

Absolute annihilation:

So you don't have to click through:
I’ve watched you from afar and never said anything for two main reasons. 1 being the respect I have for your brothers and parents & 2 I’ve always wanted to keep the in fighting between folks of color to a minimum.

This was something I couldn’t let go -

I’ve known you since I was ten years old and played with you so I’d say I know you better than most at a deeper level. You were a hell of a player and instead of using your platform you did everything in your power to gain acceptance and popularity, nothing with you has ever been genuine but transactional and usually for publicity reasons.

Even during this most sensitive time both politically and socially you take the side of the oppressor because that’s who you make your money from. I would of thought the “love” you have always claimed for your country, a country you represented at the highest levels would shine through to push back on rhetoric of annexation and humiliation of the very land you are born and raised in, but even that doesn’t get you to do the right morally.

This is the reason why every place you have played - no one liked you and players on the inside have always known who you really are - a sell out of the highest proportions. You are the perfect example of why people of color haven’t progressed at the highest levels of society. From one man to another, you’re a disgrace and history will judge you accordingly.

Don't bother coming back, P.K. If Gretzky's rep is in the shitter now, yours is definitely right there with him.

I hope every single member of the American hockey team is eaten by those Canadian moose y'all breed up there with a taste for human flesh:
BOSTON (AP) — President Donald Trump called the U.S. hockey team on Thursday to wish players good luck ahead of their 4 Nations Face-Off final against Canada.

USA Hockey posted a photo on social media showing general manager Bill Guerin standing in the middle of the locker room holding up a phone. Players after their morning skate called it an honor to hear from Trump.

“It was so awesome to get his support,” U.S. center J.T. Miller said. "It’s a pretty big deal for him to take time out of his schedule to talk to us for five minutes. It’s just another one of those things where we’re kind of pinching ourselves this tournament.”

U.S. defenseman Noah Hanifin said, “Hopefully we can get the win tonight for our country and for Trump.”

A friend of mine who is a hockey fan—a Leafs fan who still … hopes—thinks pro hockey players are bigger conservative meatheads than even other pro athletes because the nature of the sport now pretty much excludes all but the solid middle class and higher. These are people born, if not on third base, then on second, and have even less empathy than other athletes. And, yeah, baseball, football, and basketball all draw from marginalized and impoverished groups, those who understand struggle is more than personal.

It's starting to change. There are more and more programs out there trying to support and recruit players from marginalized communities and players of color, but it's not happening fast enough. Ironically, at least in my experience, the teams with wealthier kids tend to be the more liberal ones. I'm talking about white people though. Here in STL, at least, the baseball families are far more right-wing than the hockey families. Again, all anecdotal, but interesting nonetheless.

Also, PK Subban can go fuck himself.
