It'd be fantastic if MLB could make lemonade here and somehow breakdown the bullshit of regional privileging and blackouts, where someone from Iowa can't watch Cubs games unless they're playing in Kansas City that day. Blackouts are dumb in the first place, and especially dumb in an era of mobility. If someone is traveling, they should still be able to watch their home team play even if they're stuck overnight in Rat Fuck county, Mississippi.

That's a laugh.

This is from an article about the Rockies (and Astros and Pirates) situation with AT&T Sportsnet:
just 35% of those that live in MLB markets can watch local baseball games on cable TV through regional sports networks.
Article: https://www.denverpost.com/2023/03/13/r ... d-for-now/

That's... shockingly low, to me anyways and may change some of my thinking on how MLB will deal with the demise of RSNs. If that coverage really is that bad, maybe the hit to a no-blackout, streaming available, product won't be as big a hit for most teams as I thought. The problem, I guess, will be in figuring out how to satisfy the handful of teams that do have fairly profitable media markets now (new York, mostly but L.A. too and then probably Boston and Chicago) but I'm sure there's some pinch point and which an overall unhealthy league starts negatively impacting even the most profitable clubs.

Reminds me of when Kendrys Morales broke his leg in the celebration scrum after his walk-off homer.

Thanks, well, what can I do, i'm a Mets fan and, as Roseanne Roseannadanna says, "it's always something".
More proof (if it was needed) that spending money doesn't guarantee winning. Health, now that doesn't guarantee winning either but it is a necessary ingredient to any successful sports team. This is a HUGE loss for the Mets, make no mistake. What they will do now, I haven't a clue. David Robertson? Adam Ottovino?

You should trade for Chris Sale. He closed out the final game of the 2018 WS. :shifty:

Seeing the not-as-hot-as-they-think takes about Diaz’ injury—see! this is why you should participate; or see! this is why you shouldn’t celebrate—makes me think of the discussion about the tortoise and the hare fable in The Last Days of Disco. The moral of the story isn’t that, going forward, you should bet on the tortoise because it’s going to beat the hare in race after race. What happened to Diaz was a fluke. It genuinely suck for Mets fans—worse for those who don’t have weller’s thick skin of “here we fucking go again”—but it was a fluke.

You say that jokingly I assume but right now to me that's not the worst thing they could do. A full-thickness torn patella, he's facing an eight month rehab/recovery and more than anything else right now, he just has to be focused on rehabbing to make sure that when he's "healed" that he is still the pitcher he was up to the last out last night. He faced 3 batters and struck them all out, that's who he has been and needs to return to. It really sucks but what can anyone say? It WAS, as Doc said, a fluke thing, the Mets have insurance on the contract they gave him so that isn't an issue, getting the three outs Diaz would normally get in each game he played is their biggest issue and I am struggling to see just who and how they are going to do that.
Can Sale handle New York? Would he accept a trade to the Mets? If i'm the Mets i'd be looking at anything and everything.
