Another consequence of the pitch clock/shortened game for me: I normally go to bed around 9 pm, switching off the game in the 5th, maybe 6th inning. If the game is close and in the 8th at 9 pm, I'm more likely to stay up to finish it now.
Play 9 and Doc can still get to bed while the sun is out? Sign me up!

I wouldn't mind my team buying a championship, they are certainly trying to use their resources to augment their home-grown core. Free market and all that. Spending lots of money doesn't guarantee anything other than having players who are well-compensated for their talents. Still have to win the games on the field. How the players were acquired really doesn't matter.
The romantic in me wants the talent to be homegrown, guys who came up thru the system together, they're friends, they identify with the club. Winning together means more than just winning. Like I said, romantic. But a team with a high payroll means more money in the pockets of labour, less in the owner's. That labour in this case is materially different from what we normally think about—they'd be the richest guy in most any town—but the principle is still there. Guys are going to get their payday, may as well be helping my team.
Yeah, Im trying to think of the last successful team to do this.

Depends on how many players you demand to meet the threshold. The 2018 Red Sox team felt like the culmination of a homegrown talent rather than "buying" players. Those Torre Yankees teams qualify to me, despite the rep that Steinbrenner was bringing in high-priced ringers. The 2016 Cubs and 2017 Astros were very much teardown/build up models.

Yuck. It was inevitable, but I hate it when athletes look like NASCAR drivers.

Doing my Jackie Robinson/Curt Flood lecture today. The two pet desires I wanted from teaching was to talk about punk and talk about baseball.

(The third one, which I realized later, was to do a lecture shitting on KISS. Life is good.)

Cool! What's the gist of the lecture? "Before Curt Flood, owners could mandate that players own Dynasty in their record collections..."

Because Curt Flood lost his case, prophecy foretold that Gene Simmons would spread his genital warts across the earth. That is our dystopia.

(More seriously, the lecture is about popular memory and dominant ideology. It asks students to consider why Jackie Robinson is celebrated by baseball and American society more widely, yet Curt Flood is only known by serious fans and players. That is, one narrative has achieved sacred status in American life, one is barely known. Why?)

Yeah, that's a great conversation. Also, you may know this already but be sure to play this song for them:

Damn! I should have consulted that disc. Oh well. Attendance was crap—November and March are the months where attendance goes to die—but I was in a more enthusiastic voice than normal. I just fucking love talking about that stuff. At the end, a student said, "Go Yankees!" I told him I'd take that into account come final grade time.

I've said it before but I'll say it again: For anyone without t-mobile, you can go to slickdeals.net and trade a $5 Amazon gift card for a MLB.tv subscription.

I looked, didn't find any all continue Doc's porn infused pirated streams.

Catch a few innings of Orioles-Royals, realize that that's stupid, and switch to lesbian teens. That's so much a better deal than anywhere else.

That's my kind of double play.
