A friend of mine refused to pronounce the name Kuh-neeval. Kn, he said, is an en sound. So he called him Evil Neevil. Which has forced itself into my default, too.

David Crosby.
Before I was taken in by bands like the Clash and Joy Division, I grew up in a house where groups like CSN got a lot of play.

Sorry to hear about David Crosby. Love The Byrds, maybe my fourth favourite US band ever.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I'm sure his getting a liver transplant in 1986 and remaining sober afterwards helped a lot too.revbob wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 7:23pmIts remarkable he out ran the reaper this long.WestwayKid wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 6:55pmDavid Crosby.

How perfect are the opening bars of “Turn! Turn! Turn!”? In some respects, I lose interest once the lyrics begin.

Hello,
RIP, David Crosby. I never really cared for his music but could respect the effort and contributions of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.

I'm with that, I could cherry pick a handful of songs I like that he was involved in.

We beach the beachheads other armies cannot beach

I thought he was a huge asshole who liked to shit on a lot of music I love. The guy who wrote "Our house is a very very very fine house" really didn't have the right to say the Ramones were dumb. But I too like the Byrds and this is obviously a very hard day for our parents.
Got a Rake? Sure!

Crosby was a character, for sure. I think he was so ornery and crotchety that it was hard (at least for me) to get too upset about him blasting away at music I liked. Plus, it was a lot of fun when he hit a deserving target (his comments about Mike Love are amazing: https://www.clashmusic.com/news/david-c ... mike-love/)
The Byrds were great across multiple musical directions and helped lay the foundations of several genres of music I adore, so hard to have too many bad feelings about the guy. His solo and CSN/Y stuff could be a little more hit or miss but there was still some decent stuff there, and I appreciate that he and CSNY were did an anti-iraq war tour back when that was still a controversial position to take. I saw them at red rocks on that tour and although Neil was the guy that seemed the most vital, Crosby was in fine form.
Ultimately not a fave, but I recognize his place in history and his hand in a lot of music I do love. And he had a surprisingly relevant twilight given how he took to social media. Interesting guy, RIP.
