The 20th century is so far in the rear view mirror, even the heirs of our icons are passing.

A friend of mine refused to pronounced the name Kuh-neeval. Kn, he said, is an en sound. So he called him Evil Neevil. Which has forced itself into my default, too.

You have to admit, it rolls off the tongue nicely. It sounds so sinister, too.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 12:55pmA friend of mine refused to pronounced the name Kuh-neeval. Kn, he said, is an en sound. So he called him Evil Neevil. Which has forced itself into my default, too.

Sad one for me, I loved that band and saw them in 1975 headline a show. Damn 2023 isn't messing around.
From what I see there's still a little hope

My dad was an engineer with Harley and one day Evel visited the Milwaukee headquarters and my dad got me his autograph. This was maybe 1984/85. I had no idea who he was. I found the autograph years later and finally appreciated how cool it was/is.

Wow, that is really cool. My friends and I all wanted to be Evel Knievel as kids in the early 80s, and did really stupid stuff like building a shaky ramp out of plywood and bricks, having a bunch of kids lay down in front of it, and jumping over them on our bicycles. You…uh…didn’t want to be the kid on the end.WestwayKid wrote: ↑16 Jan 2023, 10:44amMy dad was an engineer with Harley and one day Evel visited the Milwaukee headquarters and my dad got me his autograph. My Dad got a few notable autographs over the years too. When he was 13 (in September of 1960), he got JFK’s autograph when he was doing a campaign speech a couple miles from here. He got JFK to sign his math homework. My Dad also met Muhammed Ali at the student center at the University at Buffalo in the 60s and got him to sign his draft card. And he got Wayne Gretzky to sign a newspaper at a Dunkin Donuts in 1982, the morning after Gretzky beat Phil Esposito’s single season scoring record in a game in Buffalo. I’ve mentioned the last one here before. My Dad’s boss knew Phil Esposito, and basically pestered Esposito over the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium phone while my Dad listened on a speaker, until Phil got them a couple standing-room-only tickets to the sold out game.
