All non-Yankees fans who are nevertheless backing them: You are making the same mistake we've all made when we've foolishly sided with Heston in a poll. We've all regretted those choices and you will regret this. :naughty:
Counterpoint: the dodgers are Chico Harris on a Kory-Matey "pizza"
I'll grant you the pizza side—also that NY beats LA nine days a week when it comes to pizza—but Chico is distinctly awful Yankees fandom. As I said the other day, only Yankees fans know their number of championships—and will announce it like a vegan at a dinner party—and regard it as a birthright to build on. When the window closes for the Dodgers, their fans will follow whatever else is trendy and shiny.
Ever been to Steeler country? Living near the 'Burgh is probably the number one reason I fucking hate football.
Well, yes, granted. I was confining things to baseball. Habs fans know how many championships they've won, presumably so do Celtics fans, and it's annoying. I'm anti-historical on the subject in that the only number that counts to me is while you've been a fan. I think the Red Sox have 8 or 9, but all I care about are the 4 while I've been around. If you're strutting over a championship that was won when Coolidge was president, that's just sad.

I simply cannot get behind the Dodgers. There is something too slick about them. I love New York City. It's my favorite place in the world other than my hometown. I've gotta go with the Yankees in this series.

Jack Flaherty is a damn fine pitcher. I hate him.

I never watch Fox channel but holy hell the maga ads.

Do these announcers ever stop talking long enough to take a breath.

National broadcasts are always worse than the usual team ones, especially in the postseason, because they're trying to entertain non-fans. It would never happen, but I'd like to see the playoffs have a booth with the home team's regular PBP guy and each team's colour guy. You'd have people familiar with the teams and used to talking baseball.

There was a time where I would turn the tv volume all the way down and turn on the radio broadcast. But not in the Sterling Waldmyn era.

Sterling would have called Freeman's shot as a routine lazy fly then asked, "What happened?"

But, yeah, I'd love to have the option of having the radio call instead of the tv one. No chance of discussions of Jessica Alba in the stands with, wait, is that Bronson Pinchot?

Yeah, I had to turn the volume down last night. I don't like being around people who talk a lot so why in hell do I want to hear all this yapping during a baseball game?!

Just finished watching the new Netflix documentary series on the 2004 Red Sox, The Comeback. Even if you hate the Red Sox, it's still just a remarkable narrative. So much improbable and weird shit along the way. One thing that struck me, tho, is that while all the players who participated look twenty years older (or more)—well, Papi's aged well—Bronson Arroyo somehow looks like he's lost a couple years. He's 47 but looks about 25. Schilling looks like crap. Cancer, chemo, and fascism will age a guy hard, I guess.

Chanced upon the documentary An Uncivil War, about the Dodgers and Yankees in the 70s. A good reminder of what a goddamned sanctimonious phony Garvey has always been and a valuable corrective about Reggie Jackson. Yes, he was cocky and annoying as fuck, but he was a guy who went thru a lot of shit in his life and that was how he responded or compensated. As he's talking, you can see there's still a lot of pain that he's carrying. I also didn't know that Billy Martin's mother was a prostitute who worked out of her apartment. Hard not to think having a series of johns going thru his home as a kid had a deep effect on him. Finally, it's hard not to see how Trump looked at Steinbrenner as a model (at least for all of Steinbrenner's worst qualities).

There's a good Reggie Jackson documentary that came out last year that is worth watching

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20418306/?ref_=ext_shr

I didn't know that about Billy Martin, that sort of explains a lot.

Also I remember those fucking announcers fawning all over Steve Garvey back then and him being held up as some kind of role model. I was too young to know a lot but old enough to question it and not just because he was on the other team.
