Picked up a bottle of this on Friday. The Old Fashioned is kind of a big thing around these parts and while I like them, I typically don't like mixing drinks at home. This takes away that problem. Just mix with Squirt and I can have an Old Fashioned Sour in minutes. 65 proof, too, so it will keep you warm on a cold Wisconsin night.

Bernie's Smitten Mittens Maple Smores Stout. Tasty as fuck lots of flavors but not overwhelming. Clocks in at 6.8% abv. You could easily go for a second...and I have.

Bartender, what've ya got in a dessert stout?

For sure but unlike a lot of dessert beers I wasn't regretting it halfway thru.

6.8% is pretty nimble too for a dessert stout.revbob wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 8:38amFor sure but unlike a lot of dessert beers I wasn't regretting it halfway thru.
The "pastry stout" craze is pretty hit or miss for me. You'll have a 14%abv poorly attenuated non-barrel aged stout with all sorts of adjuncts and it's just a hot mess, or you can have a tight, rich roasty stout with a well balanced undertone of vanilla or coffee.
On that note, cinnamon in my stouts is a dealbreaker for me. I'm not really into fruited stouts either, but I haven't been as traumatized by those as cinnamon. Same thing for citrus in my sours.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: Thread O'Booze REVISED!
I had a good stout with cinnamon once. It was called an Aztec stout or some such thing. Ive since tried others that were absolutely horrid. I don't really want citrus in any beer and fruited ones are pretty hit/miss. I knew I was taking a gamble on this one I got yesterday like you said they can just have too much shit thrown in sometimes but its a local place that makes some good small batch beers so it felt pretty safe and it paid off.matedog wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 12:22pm6.8% is pretty nimble too for a dessert stout.revbob wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 8:38amFor sure but unlike a lot of dessert beers I wasn't regretting it halfway thru.

Zero Gravity is one of my favorite local places. A former Red Sox pitcher is known to stop in from time to time.
