He ain't wrong. Fredric Wertham was making the same warnings back in the 40s and 50s and he wasn't wrong then, either (he was wrong on a lot of stuff about comics and readers, mind you). There's a fine line between seeing the fascist undertone of the superhero genre, deconstructing and warning about it (e.g., Watchmen, The Boys), and just revelling in the violence-as-morality, superiority of it all (e.g., Frank Miller).
Yeah but Daredevil still slaps.

Funny, I've been doing a re-read of DD from the start (I'm around issue 210 or so, as that hideous Micah Synn story just concluded). I was struck by how fucking clumsy and half-baked Miller's stuff was. The art was half-done—or, rather, Janson did the heavy lifting—and the stories hum-drum. I give him full credit for re-orienting DD as noir and, really, giving him a distinct identity, but subsequent writers—Denny O'Neill, for example, which is where I'm at right now—told much better stories.

Miller's run was really funny in its progression of the distribution of work. They wisely roughly split it up in the three paperback volumes:
V1—Miller art/McKenzie writing
V2—Miller art and writing
V3—Miller writing/Janson art

I actually really like Anne Nocenti's run. Really creative, a little surreal, and very different. Also notable for JRJR drawing Mephisto like an actual demon instead of just a skinny pink dude.

I've never read her stuff. Looking forward to it.

More Moore!

There's something I find amusing, even charming, about how dismissive Moore is about adaptations of his work, unlike, say, John Byrne carping and moaning whenever something he's associated with makes it to the screen. Maybe it's that Moore is delightfully crazy—half wizard/half mall Santa—whereas Byrne is just a bitter old prick. It's a fine line, perhaps, but I'm happy to put each one on either side of it.

Moore also has the benefit of being am artistic genius and is insightful and incisive on a bunch of stuff while being cranky. Byrne, on the other hand, has been a net drag on the world for years if not decades at this point.

If they could stop grifting each other, maybe they might actually be able to take over a country.

Back in the 50s, Superman and Supergirl comics were about 75% horsefucking. Weird, but that's what sold back then. That's why the 50s more generally is known as the Horsefucking Decade.

Well that clears that up but what the hell is going on in the lower right?
