Poor Zoe. She is going to write a screenplay about this one day and you are going to be looked at as one of history's greatest monsters. But then it will come out that Zoe stole the idea for the screenplay from another cat and you will be vindicated. But not before selling all of your worldly possessions and moving to a remote island in the South Pacific. Never to be heard from again.

For sale: Kitty litter. Never used.

The Boss says that Zoë will sometimes sit for hours at the front door waiting for me to come home. Which is touching and heartbreaking.

During the early days of the pandemic, there was all this stuff about cats being confused and upset about the humans being home all the time, interrupting their solitude. Our cats are very social and we can tell that they like having people around.

Butters wasn't what I would call independent but after the pandemic and me being home allllllll the time, he's very clingy now.

They adapt to circumstances and build new normals. But it shows that, if having a human around is normal, they do interact and want to be with us. They aren't pack animals like dogs, of course, but they like having company, that kind of stimulation. We can tell that Luke loves having other cats around him (the girls much less so). He's just flat-out gregarious and gets excited when they start playing and wants to join in (but when he does, they snarl and stalk off).

When one of the cats gives one of those judgmental looks, I tell them they lick their own anus, so stow the attitude. It doesn't work, but I feel like I've regained some measure of authority.
