Not with the current group, but our previous duo I could get them to stop certain activities—like jumping on the kitchen counter—with just a look. Which makes me sound like a tyrant, but it was more a case that they learned the rule was, apparently, no jumping on the counter if anyone is watching.Sparky wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 9:52amI think they listen and understand more than they let on.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 9:31amI've found that if, like, you drop something and swear loudly, all the cats take notice and give you a wide berth.
We have rubber bands between the knobs on the pulls for our linen closets because 2 of our 3 like to paw the doors open and we keep cleaning supplies on the lower shelves. The rubber bands prevent the doors from opening enough for them to gain access, but we hear "kathunk, kathunk, kathunk". Their fave time to do this is usually between 4 & 5 am. If I get out of bed to scold them, they're long gone before I even get to the hallway, so I just holler "stop it" from my bed, and lo and behold, they know exactly what I'm hollering about and they cease and desist. Until the next time that is.![]()

Zoë is transfixed by that stuff to the point of pawing at the screen (a problem because she's not good at keep her claws in), while the other two have to be in the right mood.

Lic ignores it completely. She associates bird sounds with looking out the window. That's where the birds are, not on the tv. So when she hears the birds, she'll just run to the nearest window and scan the yard.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑28 Dec 2022, 9:38amZoë is transfixed by that stuff to the point of pawing at the screen (a problem because she's not good at keep her claws in), while the other two have to be in the right mood.

Cats have better vision than we do, pretty sure they can read small type as well.Mimi wrote: ↑28 Dec 2022, 11:04amButters isn't very bright.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑28 Dec 2022, 10:38amLicorice is the smart one who will not be seduced by false gods!Mimi wrote: ↑28 Dec 2022, 10:33amLic ignores it completely.
