Pure bullshit. It's against the law in Australia to stop serving alcohol or to be sober.

Sometimes I really lose faith in humanity. Seems like when you struggle in life theres this collective effort for everyone to shit on you, kick you when you're down. There's a worm in humanity that's truly evil. I just don't want to be a part of it anymore.

The older I get, the more I embrace Anne Frank's view: "It’s difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart."

I have a co worker who is literally going through absolute hell. Was raised in an abusive home in Mexico, brother killed himself when he was 5, in constant body pain from living his entire life as a blue collar worker, wife divorced him after they move to America and she gets her green card, son overdosed on drugs, I can go on all day. Dude has the nicest attitude despite all this and works his ass off yet all people can do is talk shit about the guy. I just am starting to think most of humanity is downright rotten. As disheartening as it may sound, ousting dirtbags like Trump from office isn't enough. Humanity needs to take a long hard look at itself and think of how it can be better. Otherwise this is all for nought. We've built skyscrapers, made handheld computers the size of a wallet, flown to the fucking moon even. Yet still, at a purely instinctual level, we are still innately savages. Animals with a selfish desire for I and no regard for others. I've seen it from Democrats, Republicans, self professed Socialists, people from all walks of life. It's tragic really.

Sounds like your friend has had a real tough time in the extreme. But he's still here and he's proof of the strength of the human spirit. He's had so much taken from him and he's living through it all. Yes there will always be complete heartless bastards who just get kicks by making others lives a misery. And then there are guys like you who are genuine and give a fuck. So as to those others treat them with the contempt they deserve and live your life the best that you can.

Words of truth Marky. It amazes me how those who have been through the hardest of times can actually be the humblest and most down to earth. My grandfather who escaped from Soviet controlled Poland was that way. Abundance can kill the human spirit. Hardship can make it more kind. America truly is the land of plenty yet sadly we emulate those at the top. Even the common man has a desire to acquire wealth and put down others, have someone slaving underneath him. So the plenty gets hoarded and put into the coffers of the elite few.

I've said this before but it's always worth stating: If people act poorly, inhumanely, despicably, is it because of something within them as human beings or because of ideology that encourages such vile behaviour? Ideas like Original Sin say it's embedded within us, but I firmly believe that our worst, most consistently awful behaviours are ideologically oriented (including Original Sin). We aren't bad creatures; many of us have absorbed horrible ideas that guide or behaviours.

Yes but there has to be someone to set all this in motion. There has actually been psychological studies proving that psychopaths are essentially an entirely different species from humans in terms of neurological pathways, and how their brain functions. Sure it benefits you in fucking others over but what a sad way to live. This is why I cannot fully subscribe to atheism. I really do hope the score is settled in the afterlife. But then again, take a look at this world. Perhaps the creator is evil himself.

Just remember: even doc medulla can smile (i mean, we've never seen, it, but i think he's claimed to have done it before). that's gotta be worth some humanity points, eh?

Addendum: and more seriously: what everyone else has said: this is both the place to get it out and to remember there's some kind of striving that takes place even when everything is shit to try to make us better. that's what the clash were all about, after all.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Sure, we all have a capacity for evil, but that doesn't make us inherently bad—that that's our essence and doing good is overcoming that. Ideology is the intellectualization, the rationalization of it all, slowly accrued over time, in which these acts are naturalized into something fundamental to our character.

Think about it this way: when we look at a baby, do we think, “Deep within you is evil waiting to emerge”? If we're true to the belief that human beings are by nature terrible creatures, we have to believe that. But we don't think that about babies. Deep down, we understand that they are all potential, true innocence. They will learn how to be nasty and either accept it or reject it.
