I saw a documentary on it a few years back. Might've been on Amazon. Very sad and heart breaking story.
Thanks Marky, looks like it might be on Youtube.
Considering the scale of the disaster it is not widely remembered. Not surprised Jenny or anyone else was not aware of it. I only know of it through remembrance assemblies at Junior school but suspect that was only because the Headmaster was Welsh, maybe he had a personal connection? I don’t know.
I was definitely aware of this disaster whilst growing up, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a documentary or two on telly over here in recent years. So desperately sad.
Even more so when you consider the scale of loss from one village, basically a generation of children. I am surprised the village survived you would never escape the loss.
And what the article makes painfully clear - the division between the families of survivors and those killed. I still can't shake this. It's unfathomable.

Please settle this debate fellow Brits,

How is Shrewsbury pronounced? Shroosbury or Shrowsbury.

I obviously am not able to navigate the intricacies of British pronunciation, but I cannot imagine saying it any different than Shroos...

Again agree. Think it's an upper class thing here to pronounce it Shrowsbury, that or because the country is SHROpshire.

The truth is both ways are correct. The common tongue will use shroo. When people refer to the town I often hear shroo but when people talk of the football team it's often shrow.

The real big question here is how do you pronounce Phil Lynott?

Linnit or lie-not?

Yeah, always been Linnet for me, but I have heard it the other way quite a few times.

Lin not. I also say Lid on for Lydon.

I've always said Lie-not and Lie-don.

In some depths of a lager drenched interview, Johnny will say "My name might be Lydon, but really I'm a Truth-Don."

Yes and I've heard John himself say lie-don. Being the avid Pistols/PiL fan I am. I remember a very small article in Smash Hits magazine in '79 (I think) where John was at pains to explain it was pronounced Lid-on not Lie-don. I think it was at the start of the Pistols litigation/court case.
