Indeed. Dancing and whooo-ing every time he was on screen, even dancing when he was in the background. I had to fight the urge to say, "what the hell's wrong with Bender?!" as my brother seemed to quite enjoy Bender and was laughing when he was on screen.
I imagine it must have been quite like the episode "Bender Shouldn't Be Allowed On TV." But for real.

I'll go with that. It works on two levels. I'm Injun and my last name is Mars. See, two.

Ahem, I was in the Replacments. (My little brother is actually named Chris Mars. No foreknowledge of the 'Mats. My mother gave my older brother and I a voice in naming him and my older brother wanted to name him Christopher Lee because of the actor and my mom actually like the sound of it so....bam! his name is Christopher Lee Mars.)

It doesn't look like it's available to stream (yet?) on the Comedy Central website. It is, of course, available on the finer bittorrent websites.

There are a few megavideo links here, although they get taken down quite quickly these days:

I watched it again last night and this time saw the whole thing. Much better when Bender isn't a Poochie. Who knew fully grasping a story line would make it more funny. I don't understand it but that's what happened.

RE my earlier comment about the timing: I watched "When Aliens Attack" on Comedy Central last night....is it me or have they slightly sped up the old eps? Maybe I'm insane...I'll drag out the DVD's tonight and see it I can make a comparison.

EDIT: cleaned up the tense in one sentance.

Speaking of Poochie, I'm almost thru listening to John Ortved's history of the show, and Poochie was written in direct response to Fox suits who wanted a new character who would be more Bart than Bart.

Definitely one of my top five Simpsons episodes. Very quotable. "When are we getting to the fireworks factory" is my phrase for writers who can't get to the fucking point. "That's the best episode of Impy and Chimpy I've ever seen" is preferable to "Worst. Episode. Ever." for my money. And, "Oh, hi, Roy" is something I use when something uninteresting is brought to my attention and I'm expected to make a comment. And I just plain love Krusty's manic, "Poochie's dead!" (I'm also genuinely curious about "Christmas Ape Goes to Summer Camp" …)

David Cohen has said that children under 10 or something like that unironically love Poochie. So maybe those suits know what they are doing...as long as humor or writing isn't involved.

It really is. "Whenever Poochie's not on screen, all the other character should be asking 'Where's Poochy?'"
"We want him to be the dog from Hell" "Cerberus?"
