Forces have been looting
My humanity
Curfews have been curbing
The end of liberty
We're the flowers in the dustbin...
No fuchsias for you.

We tried it once, made some burgers on the grill, didn't much care for them.revbob wrote: ↑17 Feb 2023, 9:46amStill not this shit

Re: What Are you Eating Right Now?
I think they actually taste fine, and they're a great option when I'm grilling with my vegan dad, but the price point has guaranteed I never buy them on my own. Like a lot of vegan substitute food, it's being sold and marketed as a luxury product when it needs to be priced as a staple food.

Agreed all around. As much as a genuinely like them—taste and texture—I know that I can only buy them because we’ve reached a certain point in our income that it can be justified. Even at that, tho, it’s not like I buy them that often. But, yes, it needs to come down in price to gain market traction.Flex wrote: ↑17 Feb 2023, 1:58pmI think they actually taste fine, and they're a great option when I'm grilling with my vegan dad, but the price point has guaranteed I never buy them on my own. We added the usual French onion seasoning and Worcestershire sauce, but they just weren't appealing to us. I probably shouldn't write them off just yet, a couple of friends of ours order them when they go out to eat, they it's all in the seasoning and cooking, perhaps I need to give them another shot.Flex wrote: ↑17 Feb 2023, 1:58pmI think they actually taste fine, and they're a great option when I'm grilling with my vegan dad, but the price point has guaranteed I never buy them on my own. The worst thing about them in terms of cooking is that they're pretty fussy in terms of being undercooked or overcooked. If you aren't in the sweet spot, they can be nasty.Sparky wrote: ↑17 Feb 2023, 6:17pmWe added the usual French onion seasoning and Worcestershire sauce, but they just weren't appealing to us. Mash up non meat byproducts and add a bunch of salt and pay extra. Nah I'll pass.

I don't know if it's worth the effort. If you're wanting to reduce meat consumption for ethical reasons (environmental, cruelty, etc.) sure - or, as I said above, if you're in mixed company and want to just all eat the same thing - but when you look at the nutrition label it's not like they're really healthier for you or something. I mostly avoid red meat for health reasons anyways... so I avoid red meat substitutes as well.Sparky wrote: ↑17 Feb 2023, 6:17pmWe added the usual French onion seasoning and Worcestershire sauce, but they just weren't appealing to us. As we've gotten older, we both have to watch our cholesterol, so we don't eat as much red meat as we used to, but I do love a good hamburger now and then.Flex wrote: ↑17 Feb 2023, 8:41pmI don't know if it's worth the effort.
