Re: Beaner's and Rattie's Weather Porn Thread
the year the missus and I lived in Breckenridge, it was a way above-average snow year and the snow piles from clearing our driveway (no sidewalk in front of our house) got so high that both the snowblower and my own manual shoveling couldn't get the snow up high enough to clear the mounds anymore. I have a photo of it somewhere I'll try to find. The pile in our front yard ended up partially blocking our kitchen window for a while (the house was a split level and so the window was pretty high up). We moved out that Spring in May and there was still some pileage left.

Ahh, here's the photo. I think I took this picture before the next big storm that really put us over the top. The pileage on the left side of the photo is still covering the driveway. I slowly worked on it until I had dumped it all on the other side of the fence. That was a big, pointless project.

Funny how those major snow events become memories that last a lifetime. I still remember the Blizzard of ’77 in Buffalo when I was 5. The snow was drifted so high that I was able to sled out the second floor bathroom window into the back yard. My parents put a stop to it when they realized why I kept coming back into the house with my little plastic sled.Flex wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 5:17pmthe year the missus and I lived in Breckenridge, it was a way above-average snow year and the snow piles from clearing our driveway (no sidewalk in front of our house) got so high that both the snowblower and my own manual shoveling couldn't get the snow up high enough to clear the mounds anymore. Then there was the Blizzard of ‘85, almost as bad, when Buffalo’s mayor Jimmy Griffin famously told residents to grab a six-pack and stay inside. It’s still known affectionately in these parts as the “Six Pack Storm”. We neighborhood kids got our photo in the Buffalo News for the intricate network of tunnels we'd dug in the 25-foot-high plow-dumped pile in the court across the street. My parents probably still have the newspaper clipping somewhere. We had 6 days off from school for that blizzard. Amazing none of us were buried alive in the pile.

Nope. That would get me pilloried and pelted with snowballs. Haven’t seen a good public snowballin’ around here for 20 odd years.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 5:12pmOkay. As long as you're not being a walkway/foundation asshole, it's cool.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 5:10pmNothing but open lawn on the other side of the fence, so I wasn’t creating more work for anybody, but I still avoid it until there’s no other option.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 5:01pmYouse and me would be havin' words, we would!Kimmelweck wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 4:39pmI can identify with the futility once the pile reaches a certain height. My neighbor has a fence that runs along my 100+ foot driveway, and I only have about a 4-foot wide strip on my side to dump everything. When I had 3+ feet in my driveway last month, I had to resort to blowing it over the fence when I thought nobody was looking.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 4:17pm
Accumulated since December. Our pile is the highest on the block both because of my obsessive cleaning and the professional driveway clearers have been dumping their snow there (three nearby neighbours use the service). It's high enough now that there's a certain futility in shovelling now.

Thinking about it, we haven't had a shitty neighbour w/r/t snow shovelling for over 15 years (a guy we referred to as Dumbfuckchuck). There's real value in having neighbours who take care of their shit.

We were more of a 26 of rye today. For those recording such things, the pile on the curb is now higher than me. I've started shovelling stuff across the street because it's easier than adding to the pile.

I could drive to both your houses inside of daylight hours yet the ground here is mushy. We’ve had a few days in the high 20s but the average over the last month must be around 45.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Jan 2023, 9:38pmWe were more of a 26 of rye today.
