Hoo doggies, back from Round 2. I would have been doomed without the snowblower. There'll be one more round this evening after it stops, but I think we're past the worst of it.

Still coming down here in Toronto, the police had to shut down two major highways so plows could do their thing. Everyone's sliding out and getting stuck in the snow.

Re: Beaner's and Rattie's Weather Porn Thread
Been out clearing snow for the last 2+ hours. It was about 15 inches deep in the low spots but had drifted 4-6 inches higher than my blower in a few places. For the deep stuff I had to work the blower up and down and chew away at it pac-man style. It was slow going, and not as light and fluffy as it looked on the way down. Looks like the snow has mostly stopped falling for the day, thankfully.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 2:50pmHoo doggies, back from Round 2. I would have been doomed without the snowblower. Yup, more or less the same here. And it looks like it's stopped here. I'll be able to do the final clean with just a shovel, I think. My sense is this in the top 3 snowfalls of the dozen years we've been here.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 5:02pmBeen out clearing snow for the last 2+ hours. We have yet to have a visit from Mr Plow. And tomorrow is one off those days where it will be warmest in the morning and just get progressively colder as the day goes on.

I'm more than happy that classes are still Zoom-only so I don't have to trudge to school tomorrow, when I know few people will have shovelled their sidewalks and the roads will still be sketchy. I've convinced the Boss to work from home tomorrow for the same reason.

I feel for you folks, I'd hate to have to clear snow each day. Thankfully it doesn't snow where we live. We contemplated moving to Washington state at one time, but my wife has already figured out that she's going to outlive me and told me she wouldn't be able to plow the driveway when I'm dead and gone. Feels good to be needed.

An announcement: I've got a lower back strain, on the right. Now that the shovelling is complete, my body has reminded me that I'm old. I'm sitting with a heating pad right now.

Hopefully you've already trained the Mrs. in how to operate a snow shovel, so rest up and get better soon.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 8:07pmAn announcement: I've got a lower back strain, on the right. She has only rudimentary shovel skills, so if I stroke out, she'll be snowed in and not know how to work the Apple TV within 72 hrs. Forecast is for a bit more snow on Wednesday, so I have 36 hours or so to recover.Sparky wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 8:25pmHopefully you've already trained the Mrs. in how to operate a snow shovel, so rest up and get better soon.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 8:07pmAn announcement: I've got a lower back strain, on the right. Hope your back is better after some rest. I came out of it unscathed. Just a bit tired – I’ll sleep well tonight.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 8:31pmShe has only rudimentary shovel skills, so if I stroke out, she'll be snowed in and not know how to work the Apple TV within 72 hrs. I’m looking at a high of 40F and AM rain on Wednesday. For the moment, there’s no more snow in the forecast here for the next 2 weeks. That would be fine with me.

Yeah probably a top 10 snowfall in the last 20 years here, made worse by the fact I did it all at once instead of multiple rounds.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 5:08pmYup, more or less the same here. Apparently it's the biggest single-day snowfall here in six years, which was probably the blizzard that inspired me to buy a snowblower. Man, I gotta retire to Costa Rica …Kimmelweck wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 9:06pmYeah probably a top 10 snowfall in the last 20 years here, made worse by the fact I did it all at once instead of multiple rounds.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 5:08pmYup, more or less the same here. One of our dearest friends just took early retirement and fled to Europe. She was all set for living in Italy, but a late snafu with her application meant she could only get a visitor’s visa for a few months. So now she’s in Scotland and is heading to Mexico in April. From there, she’ll figure out her next move. She’s not too bummed out because she was treating her retirement as a restart, divesting herself of almost all her possessions, so she’s fine with bouncing around for now. But she hates hates hates Canadian winters, so she wants to end up someplace more mild to warm.revbob wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 9:42pmIm seriously considering this, or maybe Portugal.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Jan 2022, 9:18pmApparently it's the biggest single-day snowfall here in six years, which was probably the blizzard that inspired me to buy a snowblower.
