Oh, if it had been severe, I would’ve been fucked, because I just sort of froze and muttered “what the fuck?” I only deduced after the fact it even was an earthquake, which was confirmed on the news that night.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023, 9:13pmI'm a bit embarrassed by how ignorant(?) or nonplussed(?) I was by the whole thing. I really didn't know what was happening and had to ask The Boss whether she thought we had an earthquake. Part of it was that I didn't know eastern Canada even got earthquakes. So it was just a bunch of shaking and confusion. If it was some kind of test of self-preservation, I failed badly.Wolter wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023, 9:01pmI've only been through one earthquake in my life, about 20-odd years ago. It was very short and very mild but VERY DISCONCERTING. Mostly it was rattling tchotchkes on the shelves. I technically lived within 20 miles of a decently powerful fault line in SC for almost 30 years and that was the extent.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023, 8:59pmThe first or second year we were here, we had (very rare) earthquake. First time for me. I was mostly confused by what the hell was happening—better yet, I was on a ladder, but not that high—but a woman in the condo unit next to us lost her mind, screaming that we were going to die.Sparky wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023, 8:34pmNah, earthquakes still rattle me, no pun intended. Fully acknowledging distinctions in geographies and norms and all that, but that's wild to me that you've never had 3" of rain in 24 hours before. Then again, you're probably pretty blasé about earthquakes the way I am about blizzards.

I lived in upstate ny when I experienced my first earthquake. It was mild but holy shit was it the weirdest sensation.Sparky wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023, 8:34pmNah, earthquakes still rattle me, no pun intended. I highly recommend at least one blizzard. It can be downright beautiful...as long as you're not driving in it and the electricity stays on.

Honestly as long as the power is good and you can stay indoors under a good roof, blizzards are the easiest of the natural disasters to cope with. Honestly, they’re more of an inconvenience than a real problem in my experience, but I’ve always been in urban or suburban areas with decent snow infrastructure since moving from the south.

Hello,
Blizzards are no real big problem - as long as electricity stays with you and you've prepared supply-wise (frozen pizza and beer). Walking around massive amounts of snow can be really relaxing and beautiful. I've had my share growing up in upstate New York and Vermont.

The worst part of a blizzard is the clean-up afterwards. While it's happening, tho, as people have said, as long as the power/heat is on, it's fine.

See, your problem is that you don't appreciate that liberals are diabolical. Once you understand that first principle, everything is not only possible and not only probable, it is the only possible conclusion … unless you're being brainwashed or one of Them.

Holy macaroni. I saw a story that Newfoundland might get 400 mm (I think that's 16") of rain this week.

A "little bit"? Geez. What river is that?
We're supposed to get up to 1.5 inches between now and Friday, for us, that's quite a bit, for others, it's nothing to write home about.
